Sensei Sushi

Sensei Sushi is one of the sushi / maki places I would love to go back to. A couple of months ago, my cousin and I decided to eat at this restaurant located at BF Homes Paranaque.

We ordered three items from the menu which was enough to fill up two people.

Tuna and Crispy Scallop Dyanamite

The play on textures of rice, tuna, and fried scallop is addicting. The contrast of colors of the green plate and dominantly orange sushi is pleasing to the eye.

Crispy Philly

With a little bit of western influence, this crispy maki combines salmon and cream cheese into fried sushi rolls.

Ebi Tempura

The size of the tempura was indeed prawn-size, not just shrimp-size. Both the breading and seafood was generous.

Caffe Bene: Holiday Drinks Part 4

Off to the last part of our holiday drinks series! But first, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone! We were around the Paranaque area and tried a holiday drink offered at Caffe Bene. The commute was a little tiring and we needed a little something to put us back on track.

Iced Green Tea Macchiato

Earth-y toned, the brown caramel and the green matcha created a very needed thrist quencher. Ice and cream laced the top view of this cup. The sweetness from the caramel blended well with the strong herb taste of matcha. It's like being exciting while still being serious.

They also offered some holiday mini cakes. Tempted to try one but we opted to head over to our next stop where we will actually have our lunch. Watch out for our sushi place visit soon *guess where*!

There we go, our last post for 2015. Thank you everyone for a food-filled 2015! See you all again next year! Stay tuned for 2015 recap series this January 2016.

Larcy's: Cupcake for the Lost Ones

Part 2 of my cousin's birthday celebration! Actually this should have been part 1. As mentioned in my Jang Ga Nae post, we got a little lost when we were looking for it. We unconventionally had dessert first and stopped at Larcy's Cupcakery Cafe since we were already hungry.

We ordered these two lovely cupcakes as we regroup and search for the house number of our next food trip stop.

The place is pretty yet not overpoweringly adorned with decor. There are even these "hooded chairs" as I would like to call it. Of course that is where we sat.

Served on a stand with a lace-like design, the heart-topped cupcakes are just ready for a another photo. Presentation wise, simple and sweet wins.

Pink Velvet Cupcake

A cupcake base that isn't too sweet, cream cheese topping that is thick, a little salty rather sugary, makes up one of their best-sellers.

Old fashioned Chocolate Cupcake

Moist chocolate cupcake, topped with chocolate ganache, with chocolate filling is perfect for that classic triple chocolate fix.

There were so many cupcakes on display. We wouldn't mind going back to try out the other flavors.

Jang Ga Nae: Korean Birthday Lunch

Celebrating my cousin's birthday lunch! With her being a fan of Korean drama and variety shows, we went to Jang Ga Nae for lunch. The funny thing is we kind of got lost along the way (wrong location in tagged in Google maps and we did not take note of the house number :( ). The good thing is we found it.

It's sign says "Jang Ga Rae", but the name that lined the windows and the online sources say "Jang Ga Nae". I'll go with the latter. The place may seem a little smaller outside compared to the other Korean restaurants lined up on the street, but the interior is actually quite bigger (compared to one Korean restaurant on the same street). We arrived a little past lunch time so it was not crowded anymore.

Appetizers

They have a lot of free appetizers which are refillable. The photo above also features the bibimbap.

Bibimbap

Vegetables plus egg plus sticky rice, it's already a complete meal by itself. I like that the spicy sauce is separated so you could control the amount of heat as you want.

Gal Bi Tang - Beef Rib Soup

There are big servings of beef rib with matching ligaments and tendons. This could actually serve more than two people. We chose a soup that is not spicy. The taste is quite similar to nilaga.

Sam Kyup Sal - Grilled Pork Belly

Since we only ordered one order from the grill, we did not get to experience cooking on our table. The pork belly was served on a hot plate instead.

My cousin oriented me on how to eat (and prepare) this one. Get a piece of lettuce, get a slice of pork and dip it in the sauces, get some vegetables, wrap the lettuce up and eat the whole wrap.

We were so full that we were not able to ask for refills on the appetizer. There were many options on the menu and the menu cover was actually quite pretty.

Blé: Real Greek Food

Bringing the food expedition to the Parañaque area, my cousin and I visited Blé along Aguirre Avenue. We were greeted by blue and white interiors. The place was quite small. Good thing it was only me and my cousin dining at that time so it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves.
Blé has a newer and bigger branch at El Grande Ave called Blé+. Some of their menu items are only available at that new branch.

This restaurant has also been recognized as one of the best new restaurants.

We are curious about what Greek food tastes like. For this visit, we tried their meat in the form of a souvlaki and kebabs.

Tenderlion Souvlaki

Meat, tomatoes, tzatziki, and more, wrapped in a pita bread. The tenderloin was definitely all meat with just the right mix tenderness and chewiness.

Yougurtlu Kebab
This comes with our own choice of 2 sticks, plus chopped pita, plus a drizzle of Greek yogurt and special tomato sauce. We had the chicken skewer and lamb skewer.

The chicken meat was tasty throughout. You can taste the spices up to the center of the fillet. It was tender too.

There aren't many places around where you can get lamb meat so we marked it as a must try for this visit. The ground lamb meat kebab was slightly crispy outside, a little crumbly inside, and has a different taste of meat with spices all over.

Baklava

Layers of phyllo pastry with pistachios soaked in a special syrup was our dessert for the day. The pastry has some kind of chewy feel to it (reminiscent of, but less chewy than mochi). Finely chopped pistachios can be spotted in between some layers. I like that the syrup was not overpoweringly sweet, but sweet enough to go with the pastry.

Frappe and Strawberry Shake (with Greek yogurt and honey)

It was a really hot day so we ordered some drinks to cool down. My cousin ordered the Frappe while I had the Strawberry yogurt shake.

Satisfied our Greek food craving right here! We would like to try the moussaka and falafel next time. And maybe try some dishes only served at their El Grande Branch.
