Seikyo: Japanese Convenience Store - More Chocolates!

Moving on to part 2 of our Seikyo take away goodies, aside from the matcha goods in part 1, we also bought a mix of classic and uncommon flavors. I would love to receive some of these this trick or treat season.

Alfort - Black

Compared to its matcha counterpart, this one has strong dark chocolate on top of the chocolate biscuit. Definitely a classic on the bitter end of the chocolate spectrum.

Look - Hokkaido Double Cheesecake
Now we have cheesecake flavored fillings coated by milk chocolate.

Half of the box has the regular cheesecake filling while the other half has the blueberry cheesecake. The flavors are aptly labeled on the foil.

The Cheesecake and Blueberry Cheesecake flavors are quite similar except that one has blueberry notes (duh haha). Sweet cake-like treat for the cheesecake lovers out there.

Look - Japanese Harvest

Got curios from the vegetables/fruits on the box cover. This was actually the first item I grabbed from the shelves. I was able to try Sweet Potato, Chestnut, Pumpkin, and Grape filling in just one pack!

Similar to the cheesecake box, the flavors of the filling are written on the foil. This time, the flavors are grouped per column. See the happy harvest drawings at the box!

Each flavor has 3 pieces each in the box. Lets take a look at them one by one.

Grape:

Pumpkin:

Chestnut:

Sweet Potato:

The Look chocolates with various fillings are for those who want to try different flavors mixed in chocolate while the Alfort Black is for those who enjoy bitter chocolate. All of these items for 80 pesos each! Almost everything is 80 pesos in this store. On my next trip to Little Tokyo, I might try out some of the noodles or instant curry/meals in Seikyo.

Again, apologies for the lower than usual quality of photos. Not sure what's with my phone camera that day.

Uncle Tetsu: Fluffy Cheesecake

Another find during last September's weekend sale, a 50% off mini cheesecake!

Uncle Tetsu is marked on top of the cake.

Uncle Tetsu Mini Cheesecake

A contrast to the thick and filling New york cheesecake, this Japanese cheesecake is light and fluffy. Neither to sweet, nor to salty, it's perfect for a dessert snack anytime of the day. I could finish this whole mini cake by myself!

For a more fruity experience, you can add toppings and spreads. And aside from the signature cheesecake, they also have products like chocolate cheesecake, cheesecake toasts. cheese tarts. and the pastry puffs.

Backlog Post: Highlands Prime Steakhouse

Sifting through my files, I found some photos of our Highlands Prime Steakhouse visit last July 2014. We ate there twice that week.

It was as if we walked into a log cabin when we entered the establishment. The place was quite spacious and has extra space to accommodate a grand piano. Seats overlooking the Manila Bay are also available. Here are some photos of what we had:

Steak

We ordered some meat...

Butterfly Prawns

...and some seafood as well.

Mango Cheesecake

That swirly mango garnish is made from a sour mango. I expected something sweet when I ate that whole mango garnish but I was greeted with sourness. The cheesecake was quite thick and rich.

And a few days after our lunch, we decided to have our dinner there. This time, there was a pianist playing some songs on the piano which enhanced the ambiance of the place. We tried the following dishes:

Espresso Apricot Chicken
Tasted some of the coffee and apricot in there.

Salmon Tornado
This salmon steak was the seafood of the night.

Mango Panna Cotta

A lighter dessert compared to the mango cheesecake. Still, there was a sour mango garnish. The panna cotta itself was milky and creamy.

I want to visit again and relive the taste of the food!

Cheecups

Some cheesecakes are sweet and milky, some have a noticeable cheese taste, some are compact / siksik, and some resemble cream in consistency. This time, we get to taste 5 different flavors of mini cheesecakes in convenient (and recyclable) mini jars from CheeCups. We had a discount voucher for this one too. We were supposed to get 6 flavors but the Triple berry blend was not available for discounted purchases at that time.

Cheesecake in a cup – this is probably where CheeCups‘ name came from which is also pretty descriptive of their product.

Run down of the flavors we had:

Oreo
As the name suggests, crushed oreo chunks on top, and a crushed oreo cookie crust sandwiching the cheese cake. The cheesecake itself seemed quite sweeter than all the other ones. Or maybe it was just the oreos. This and S’mores are my favorite flavors.

S’mores
This is the only one in the batch that has the crust (crushed graham?) on top of the cheesecake together with the topping. Along with the marshmallows, there was also chocolate drizzle and a few nuts.

Almond Kiss
Topped with white chocolate mini kisses and almond slivers. The almonds added bite and texture.

Tiramisu
Coffee toppings for this one. The coffee taste was not limited on the topping but is also present on the cheesecake itself. Maybe the cheesecake has coffee in it. It seemed a little browner in color too.

Chocolate Chip Cookie
Literally topped with half a chocolate chip cookie. The cheesecake on this one seemed thicker.

All of the flavors has a soft crust and a cheesecake with a cream consistency that gets more solid when chilled but is still easily scooped out. The cheese itself was not too sweet nor milky and it actually had a hint of sour, just right to balance the sweet toppings. These little goodies are best eaten straight from the fridge. After consuming the contents, the mini jars can be reused as containers for keeping little trinkets – or your very own mini cheesecake concoction.
